ABC-STEP-02 (4)_edited.png

Safety is a top priority for ABC of North Florida. Along with our Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) recognition, we support our member companies’ safety programs through timely safety training.

We know you are committed to safety so get the recognition your company deserves with STEP. Establishing a safe working environment requires every employer, large and small, and every worker to make safety and health a top priority. The entire work force, from the CEO to the most recent hire, must recognize that worker safety and health is central to the mission and key to the profitability of the American company.

Step and the 20 Key Components of a world-class Safety Program can be used to guide companies on their journey towards safety excellence. The online application features include instantaneous STEP level notification and auto-save functionality so that members can save their work and complete the application at a later date.

Read the ABC’s 2018 Safety Performance Report to understand the impact of STEP participation on safety performance. Packed with infographics and practical takeaways, the report documents the dramatic impact of using proactive safety practices, making the BEST-PERFORMING COMPANIES 670% SAFER THE INDUSTRY AVERAGE.

Reach World Class Safety Through STEP

ABC National's Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) provides an organized method for analyzing and measuring the effectiveness of a company's safety program. Participating contractors and suppliers are rated on 20 safety program components, including management commitment to safety, employee participation, use of personal protective equipment, record keeping and more. Each company’s total rating determines its eligibility (or actions needed) for various recognition levels: bronze, silver, gold, platinum, and diamond--the highest honor.

The information contained in each STEP application is viewed only by ABC staff and is kept strictly confidential. ABC does not disclose any company-specific STEP information. ABC accumulates aggregate data through the program to determine collective safety trends and this information becomes part of ABC’s annual STEP data analysis, which serves as a member benchmarking tool.

BEST PRACTICES AND MODEL POLICIES

The journey to world-class safety on construction jobsites begins with the pledge to maintain a drug- and alcohol-free workplace.

The Construction Coalition for a Drug- and Alcohol-free Workplace (CCDAFW) is helping companies take that step by offering  best practices  on substance abuse policies, testing procedures, disciplinary policies and various state/local laws relating to substance abuse testing requirements and regulations, in addition to  model policies ,which are written to allow contractors the ability to edit each section to comply with state and local laws.

The CCDAFW is comprised of five of the nation’s largest construction trade associations: ABC, The Associated General Contractors of America, Construction Industry Round Table, Construction Users’ Roundtable and Women Construction Owners & Executives.
